This is what my 22 year old girl, Nicki, said to me, while we were on a patio on Church Street at Toronto Pride 2022… (yes she still calls me mommy…)
We had missed 2 full years of Pride celebrations due to COVID-19 and had so missed this wonderful energy
Sitting at O’Grady’s and watching every one walking around... just so so much happiness, celebrations, hugs and kisses non stop! So much creativity, style, and uniqueness! so beautiful!
My Nicki has been to Toronto Pride since she’s 2 years old. Yet we both were reminded: Pride is a big happy celebration.
So uplifting! Indeed, we had both forgotten how I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E the energy of Pride Week is.
You hear and say “Happy Pride!” thousands of times if not more, you meet old friends and new friends and just soak up being around - and part of - this incredibly beautiful and loving community.

And as we kick off Pride Month, this post is about the Celebration of Pride. More posts will be on the work we still need to do!
If you have kids or friends that want to come to Pride but they’re “not sure”, nudge them to come down, offer to go down with them, or drive them or support them whatever way works for them. Walk around, celebrate, embrace, and soak it up…
For me, it was nearly 10 years of “wanting” to go to Pride before I had the courage to actually go to Pride.
Being surrounded by so so many people who are just celebrating who they are and happy is electrifying and contagious and uplifting.
You are not alone even though it may feel that way sometimes...
